Talk to us and How to Get on Our Shelves

The outline

Here at Books on Shelves we read a lot. We read cereal packets first thing in the morning, the contents label on the cat food tin, magazines, e-zines, e-books and good old-fashioned paper books. And we never tire of reading more.

We also know that beyond this ocean of wonderful material, there is an undercurrent of alternative reads which, whilst the readership may be smaller, still deserve the be seen, heard about, loved and bought.

And we like small. Out of small, great things are born.

We know that the book and magazine market is massive – far too big to be contained on real shelves. That means that sometimes less well-known writers and smaller publishers and publications struggle to get seen. We know, however, that there are a lot of book readers and buyers (ourselves included) who love wandering off the beaten mass-market path to find new reading experiences.
Vive la difference! At Books on Shelves we love novel novels, the unfamiliar, the odd, the curious, the bizarre. We relish the well known as well as the unfamiliar, the unique, the wacky, the individual, and the common place.

Books on Shelves dips into this sea of individual talent and by gathering it all together on one site we can bring it to the attention of all those readers and buyers around the world who want greater choice.

We do this in as friendly, attractive and enjoyable a way as possible (and of course we are always open to improvement, so if you have any bright ideas then please let us know).

First we have created a unique look for a very straightforward, user-friendly site. Next we have filled our virtual shelves with some rather lovely book spines to advertise the titles. With the advent of online bookstores where all titles are in neat lists, don’t you miss that experience of having to bend sideways to read book titles? Well we’ve reintroduced it! (Lists can be sooooo boring). Anyway, we think looking at the world sideways can be a good thing. It has helped us create Books on Shelves.
